Islamia College organizes annual college road races for Boys & Girls

Mumin Mushtaq & Rashida emerge victorious

SRINAGAR: The Annual College Road Race 2024 for Boys and Girls was organized by the Department of Physical Education at Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Srinagar, on Thursday.

The Road Race was flagged off by the Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Tehmina Yousuf, at 6:00 am from Shalimar Ghat Bridge/Crossing for the Girls and at 06:30 am from Nishat Garden Crossing for the Boys. The participant athletes ran via Fore Shore Road on the banks of the world-famous Dal Lake and finished at Duck Park Garden, Srinagar. One hundred and twenty students of the College, both male and female, took part with great enthusiasm. The students displayed a lot of excitement and passion for the race, as the college staff, especially on duty for the purpose, encouraged them en route.

Islamia College’s new stars, Mumin Mushtaq of B.Sc (Biotechnology) 2nd semester (Boys section) and Rashida of BA English Literature 2nd semester (Girls section), bagged first positions and won the Annual College Road Race 2024. Mumin clocked the distance of 6.5 kilometers (Men’s category) in 14:24:20 minutes, while Rashida (Women’s category) clocked the distance of 2 kilometers in 08:24:65 minutes.

BOYS SECTION:

Second place: Asif Ali Bhat of BCA 4th Semester in 14:34:00

Third place: Muzammil Hilal of B.Sc (Non-Medical) 6th Semester in 14:58:24

Fourth place: Iftiaz Ahmad of B.Sc (Botany) 2nd Semester in 15:36:00

Fifth place: Masid Ali of B.Sc (Biochem.) and Qazi Janees of B.Sc (IT) tied, finishing in 15:55:00

GIRLS SECTION:

Second place: Nazima Nazir of Biochemistry 4th Semester in 08:51:52

Third place: Mehroz Qadri of B.Com (Hon’s) 2nd Semester in 08:56:48

Fourth place: Mehak Bilal of BA (English Literature) 2nd Semester in 09:15:47

Fifth place: Hina Farooq of B.Com 2nd Semester in 09:18:56

The prize distribution ceremony was held at Naseem Bagh Park, Hazratbal. The prizes were given away to the first five position holders among Boys and Girls by the Principal of the College. In her speech on the occasion, the Principal encouraged students to take part in such activities which develop physical fitness, health, and a sound mind. She also appreciated all staff members for their support in organizing the event and announced a one-day sports picnic cum Forest Trekking for the participants of the Road Race, to be conducted and organized by the College’s Physical Education Department next week.

All the members of the College Sports Committee, senior faculty Prof. Mir Mohammad Hanief, Prof. Tarooq Ahmad Ganai, Prof. M. D. Gagiloo, and the staff of the Department of Physical Education, including Mr. Uzair Mustafa (Asstt. Physical Director), were present to ensure the event’s success. Convener of the Sports Committee, Prof. Mohammad Qasim Baba, presented a vote of thanks to one and all.
