India triumphs at 12th International Sqay Masters Cup in Pahalgam

PAMPORE: The 12th International Sqay Masters Cup concluded successfully at Pahalgam Club in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district amidst much enthusiasm and celebration.

The championship witnessed participation from over 10 countries, including Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Iraq, Indonesia, Maldives, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Laos, and host India, showcasing the rich diversity and growing popularity of Sqay martial arts on the global stage. The event was held under the supervision of the founder of Sqay Martial Art, Mir Nazir Ahmad.

The event saw fierce competition and remarkable sportsmanship, with India emerging victorious and lifting the overall first-place trophy. Iraq and Bangladesh secured the second and third positions respectively, highlighting the competitive spirit and high skill levels of the participants.

In the Senior Category, Waseem Ahmad Beigh of India achieved a commendable victory, lifting the winner’s trophy. Salwan Khaled Ibrahim from Iraq demonstrated exceptional talent and determination, securing the runner-up position.

The Sqay Federation of India expressed its heartfelt gratitude to all the participating countries, athletes, coaches and officials for making this event a grand success.

The closing ceremony witnessed the presence of the SDM Pahalgam as the Chief Guest and the Commanding Officer of the 162 Battalion as the Guest of Honour. This championship not only celebrated the spirit of Sqay but also fostered international camaraderie and cultural exchange.

Speaking with Kashmir Reader, founder Sqay Martial Art Mir Nazir Ahmad said that the 12th International Sqay Masters Cup has concluded, with participation from various countries. He said India secured the first place, Iraq the second, and Bangladesh the third place.

“Two players from Pulwama won gold medals, one of them being Arsalan Mehraj from Pampore and the other being Deesha Pandita from Koil Pulwama, who also won a gold medal,” Mir said.
