Ehtisham Khan urges CUK to reconsider fee hike

SRINAGAR: Er. Ehtisham Khan, a prominent social and student rights activist and Co-founder of the NGO “The Purpose”, has expressed his deep concern over the recent fee hike at Central University Kashmir, Tulmulla campus, Ganderbal. The fee increase has led to a peaceful protest by students, who have highlighted significant financial burdens and inadequate campus facilities.
On Tuesday, students at the Tulmulla campus gathered to protest against the substantial hike in fees, holding banners and chanting slogans calling for the rollback of the fee hike and advocating for their right to affordable education.
Ehtisham Khan commended the students for their peaceful demonstration. “I commend the students for their exemplary conduct in staging a peaceful protest. Their determination to uphold their rights without resorting to violence or unlawful activities is truly admirable. Their commitment to advocating for their education in a dignified and lawful manner sets a powerful example for all,” Khan stated.
Khan emphasized the importance of accessible education and urged the university administration to reconsider the fee hike. “Education is a fundamental right and should not become a privilege only for those who can afford it. The administration must take immediate steps to address the students’ concerns and ensure that education remains accessible to all,” Khan asserted.
He highlighted the need for urgent improvements in campus facilities. “The lack of basic amenities on campus is unacceptable. The university must prioritize the well-being and academic success of its students by ensuring that the learning environment is safe, healthy, and conducive to their growth,” he added.
Reaffirming his support for the students, Ehtisham Khan extended his solidarity and urged the administration to engage in a constructive dialogue with the student body. “As a long-standing advocate for student rights, I extend my full support to the students of Central University Kashmir. I urge the university administration to listen to the students’ legitimate concerns and work collaboratively towards an equitable resolution. Constructive dialogue is essential for fostering a supportive academic community,” Khan concluded.
