CUK student qualifies IIT-JAM exam

GANDERBAL: Shakir Bashir, 6th Semester student at the Department of Mathematics, Central University of Kashmir, (CUKashmir), has qualified the prestigious Joint Admission Test for Masters (IIT-JAM) examination and received a fellowship for the Integrated Ph. D. programme in Mathematics at IISER, Thiruvananthapuram.
The JAM has evolved as the de-facto examination for admission to a large number of postgraduate and Integrated Ph. D. programmes in IITs, IISc, IISERs and NITs with an objective to help the bright undergraduates in the Science to pursue it as a career option.
For the first two years of his M.Sc. Mr. Shakir will receive a fellowship of Rs. 12,400 per month. Following this period, his fellowship will be elevated to match the UGC-CSIR-JRF standards that is approximately 50,000 per month.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A Ravinder Nath, congratulated Mr. Shakir and the Department for this significant accomplishment and asked the varsity students to follow his (Shakir’s) footsteps. “The faculty members through their support and guidance have significantly contributed to Mr. Shakir’s success.”
Dean, Academic Affairs, Prof. Shahid Rasool, said that this success not only highlights Mr. Shakir’s dedication and hard work but also serves as a testament to the excellence of the Department.
Prof. Mahammad Yousuf, Dean, School of Physical and Chemical Sciences said that Mr. Shakir’s success would be a motivation for all students of the CUKashmir and the valley.
Dr. Haribhau Bhapkar, Head, Deptt of Mathematics said the faculty members have been consistently working with a pragmatic approach to develop the complete winning personality of the students as “Academically Excellent, Physically Fit, Intellectually Sharp, Mentally Alert, & Spiritually Elevated”.
