TLSC Chadoora organises awareness prog on dowry & maintenance

CHADOORA: The Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC), Chadoora, under the aegis of J&K Legal Services Authority, organized a Legal Awareness Programme on “Dowry and Maintenance” at Sheikh-Ul-Alam High School, Chadoora.
The event, held under the direction and guidance of Jahangir Ahmed Bakshi, Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Budgam, and Mir Wajahat, Chairperson TLSC, Chadoora, aimed to raise awareness and educate the community about the laws related to dowry and maintenance.
The programme featured speeches from experts in the field, including Mir Wajahat, Chairperson TLSC Chadoora, Advocate A.R. Hanjura, Advocate Nazir Ahmad Bar Member, and Mohammad Yaqoob Ahmad, Principal Sheikh Ul Alam High School.
Mir Wajahat highlighted the importance of understanding and enforcing laws related to dowry and maintenance to protect individuals and uphold justice. “Our legal framework provides robust protections against dowry and for maintenance. It is crucial for everyone to be aware of these provisions and utilize them to combat these social evils,” he emphasized.
Advocate AR Hanjura spoke about the legal rights and remedies available for maintenance under personal laws, urging the audience to be proactive in seeking legal help. Advocate Nazir Ahmad discussed the practical aspects of filing maintenance cases and the support available through legal services.
Students from Sheikh Ul Alam Higher Secondary School also delivered speeches on the social evils of dowry and maintenance, providing a youthful perspective on these critical issues. A skit performed by the students further illustrated the detrimental effects of dowry practices and the importance of legal awareness.
The event concluded with a Q&A session, allowing attendees to engage with the speakers and gain a deeper understanding of the discussed issues. Certificates of appreciation were distributed among the speakers for their valuable contributions to the event.
