Sports Deptt’s World Environment Week celebrations kick start across J&K

SRINAGAR: The Department of Youth Services and Sports J&K is celebrating World Environment Week with great enthusiasm and commitment to environmental conservation. The week-long celebration kick started on Wednesday. It witnessed the active participation of various stakeholders, including school children of Government and private schools of different sports zones.
Under the overall guidance and patronage of Secretary to Government Youth Services and Sports Department J&K Sarmad Hafeez, mega participation of youth and school children is being ensured by the Department. Joint Director Kashmir of the Department Mohammad Rashid Kohili in an official communique has shared a comprehensive plan of action with all the District Youth Services and Sports Officers of the Kashmir division. The plan has been devised to ensure the success of weeklong plan. JD has directed all subordinate field officers to organize a series of activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainability.
As per the planner, activities like environment runs, plantation drives, and painting competitions etc are being conducted across all districts of the Kashmir division to engage the school children and youth in environmental conservation efforts. While providing details about the planned calendar he said that the Department of Youth Services and Sports recognizes the significance of fostering a sense of responsibility towards the environment among the younger generation. Activities are organized under the banner of Clean Environment week, highlighting the importance of maintaining a pristine and healthy natural environment.
Through this celebration, we seek to instill a deep appreciation for nature and encourage sustainable practices that will contribute to a greener future.
“It is our duty to protect and preserve our environment for future generations. By involving the youth in these activities, we are nurturing a sense of ownership and responsibility towards our surroundings. We hope that this celebration will inspire a lasting commitment to environmental conservation,” Kohili added.
Meanwhile District Adminstration Reasi in collaboration with Youth Services & Sports Department organised sports competitions in the disciplines of Beach Volleyball, Volleyball, Kabaddi and Tug of war at Chinkah. Over 5000 students from different Sports zone of the district participated in the activities.
Advocating for a sustainable future, Sports Department commemorated World Environment Day in Ganderbal, Srinagar, Kulgam, Baramulla, Budgam and other districts of the Union Territory. Sports competitions and recreational activities were conducted to spread awareness about the importance of neat and clean environment for the healthy and disease free lifestyle of common masses. The participating student players and other stakeholders were asked to take oath of becoming ambassadors of clean and green environment.
