Local sledge rider’s body retrieved from snow cavity at Thajwas Glacier Sonamarg

SONAMARG: The body of the missing local sledge rider, who fell into a snow cavity at Thajwas Glacier in Sonamarg on Sunday, was retrieved on Monday morning.
An official told Kashmir Reader that the body of the missing sledge rider was successfully retrieved from the snow cavity. The deceased has been identified as Manzoor Ahmad Khan, son of Mohd Yousuf Khan, a resident of Haknar Gund in the Ganderbal district.
The official mentioned that the body was shifted to PHC Sonamarg for medico-legal formalities. After completing the necessary legal procedures, the body was handed over to his family for the last rites.
A pall of gloom descended over Haknar Gund when Manzoor’s body reached his home. Amid tears, he was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard.
The incident occurred when Manzoor and two tourists accidentally fell into a snow cavity at Thajwas Glacier. While the two tourists were rescued, the search for Manzoor continued into Monday. The timely efforts of the local authorities and rescue teams were critical in managing the aftermath of this tragic accident.
