SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz Manzil Nigeen, on behalf of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who has been under house detention since May 3rd, has dismissed recent media reports claiming that the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Srinagar has filed an FIR against Mirwaiz and his family regarding the alleged illegal land allotment of his residence in Nigeen. The reports suggest that if the allegations are proven, the property will be confiscated, and Mirwaiz will be evicted.
Mirwaiz Manzil Nigeen in a statement said that Mirwaiz received no official intimation or notice regarding this matter, and the claims appear to be an attempt to malign and harass him.
“It is part of the same vehement print, electronic and social media propaganda carried out against the Mirwaiz in 2018 when multiple properties including the properties of Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid, Anjuman Nusratul Islam, Darul ul Khair Mirwaiz Manzil were all attributed to him and later all proved to be false and baseless. These things will not cow the Mirwaiz down,” the statement said.
It clarified that no property, including the house or land in Nigeen, currently belongs to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. The residence in which he lives was purchased and built by his father, Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq, in 1973, the same year Mirwaiz Umar was born. The boundary walls of the property have remained unchanged since that time.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had no prior knowledge of any issues regarding the property until the recent media reports, the statement said, adding that, according to proper procedures, any legitimate concerns should have been communicated to him rather than making sensational claims in the media. The motive behind these allegations is to malign and defame Mirwaiz, the statement added.
The statement also defended the integrity of Mirwaiz and his kin, who is a respected civil servant known for his honesty and moral conduct, asserting that neither of them has engaged in any immoral or illegal activities.
Mirwaiz Manzil Nigeen urged the public and media to disregard these baseless allegations and expressed confidence that the truth will prevail.
