Dir Agri ensures assures support to farmers amid inclement weather

SRINAGAR: Amidst the persistent heavy rainfall in the valley, Chowdhury Mohammad Iqbal, Director of Agriculture Kashmir, conducted an extensive tour of various areas in north Kashmir’s Baramulla District on Tuesday.
During the tour, he visited several agriculture fields and paddy nurseries, particularly those located in the affected areas of district Baramulla, including Janbazpora, Sangrama, Putkhah, Fathapora, Shankergund, and Rafiabad, to assess the current agricultural scenario.
The Director assured the farmers of receiving every possible technical support and advised them to consistently monitor their fields to prevent the accumulation of rainwater. He instructed the field functionaries to closely monitor the situation and guide the farmers in a timely manner throughout all agricultural activities. Furthermore, he directed the field staff to assess losses and report accordingly.
Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture Kashmir has already issued a weather advisory based on the predictions made by the Meteorological Department.
Following his field visits, the Director also visited the Mushroom Demonstration cum Training Centre in Baramulla and engaged in discussions with the concerned officers. He highlighted that under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), the department is actively implementing a special project for the promotion of small-scale agri-cottage industries like mushroom cultivation and apiculture. He instructed the concerned officers to organize year-round training sessions for young farmers and agri-entrepreneurs to promote mushroom cultivation in the district. Additionally, he visited mushroom units at Fatehpora Khawajabagh and Freshtahar.
The Director of Agriculture was accompanied by Chief Agriculture Officer Baramulla, Yadwinder Singh Sasaan, along with concerned SDAOs, AEOs, and field functionaries.
