Sex scandal: ‘Don’t bring Deve Gowda’s name into it..’: Kumaraswamy assures action against culprits

NEW DELHI: Former Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy on Monday said that action will be taken against his nephew and Hassan MP, Prajwal Revanna, who has been booked in a sex scandal reportedly involving several women, even as party MLAs demand Prajwal’s sacking.
“SIT has been formed to probe the case. Whoever has done the mistake must be punished for it. Let the truth come out,” said Kumaraswamy.
Stating that the videos caused embarrassment to his family, the JD(S) leader said, “Do not bring my name or Devegowda’s name into it as we respect women. We learned about the Revanna issue now and had we known about it earlier, we would have initiated action. The videos have caused embarrassment to the family and society”.
Prajwal, along with former minister H D Revanna, who is the brother of Kumaraswamy and the son of H D Deve Gowda, was named in a complaint by a woman as an accused in a sex scandal reportedly involving several women. The woman complainant told Holenarasipura police that she decided to step forward and name Revanna and Prajwal after watching online clips of other victims narrating their ordeal. Detailing her case, she alleged that the abuse took place between 2019 and 2022.
Gurmitkal constituency JD(S) MLA Sharana Gowda Kandakur has written a letter to the party high command, demanding that Revanna be sacked from the party. He said that the issue is causing embarrassment to the party and it may also affect the party during the elections.
JD(S) MLA Samruddhi Manjunath has also demanded the expulsion of Prajwal and his father, saying that Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy must “choose between family and party”.
Meanwhile, the Congress’s Pawan Khera shared a letter purportedly written by BJP leader Devaraj Gowda to the state president of BJP on December 8, 2023, allegedly “exposing the presence of the pen drive full of sleaze videos of Prajwal Revanna.” “Why did the BJP still go ahead with the alliance” and “why is the Prime Minister silent,” the Congress party has asked.
The BJP on its part has called the controversy “pre-planned” in light of the Lok Sabha elections. Former chief minister and Haveri Loksabha segment BJP candidate Basavaraj Bommai said, “Given the time of the incident, it seems like someone has planned it. I heard that some of the videos are fake and many similar videos are doing rounds, why SIT probe on this?”
