Football: Hilal Sultan of Hajin makes history, qualifies as National Referee

Becomes only from J&K to achieve feat, inspires local footballers

BANDIPORA: In an inspiring display of determination and skill, Hilal Sultan from Hajin town of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district has made history by qualifying for the prestigious national referee exam in football on Tuesday. He became the only candidate from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to achieve this feat this year, and the first ever from north Kashmir to qualify for national referee exams in history.
Chairman Civil Society Hajin, Mir Bashir Ahmad, told Kashmir Reader that this remarkable achievement is not just a personal milestone for Hilal but a proud moment for the entire football community in Jammu and Kashmir, in general, and for Hajin, in particular. “Indeed, it’s a proud moment for us as he is the only one who has qualified for this prestigious exam,” Bashir said. He added that challenges, dedication, and an unwavering commitment by Hilal Sultan demonstrate that perseverance can turn dreams into reality.
A friend of Hilal Sultan said, “His passion for football and refereeing began at a young age, inspired by local matches in his hometown. His journey from watching games from the sidelines to becoming a certified national referee is a narrative of hard work, relentless training, and a deep love for the game. His success serves as a beacon of motivation for many young aspirants in the region who dream of making it big in the world of sports.”
The management of Chinar Football Club, where Hilal has been an active member, is overwhelmed with pride. Aijaz Parray said that Hilal’s success is a testament to his strong character and determination. “This is not just a personal victory but a monumental achievement for the sports fraternity here. He is a role model for the youth, showing that with passion and perseverance, nothing is impossible,” he said.
Speaking with Kashmir Reader, Hilal Sultan said that this journey has been about learning and growing, not just as a referee but as a person who dreams. “Every match I officiated, every rule I learned, and every player I interacted with has taught me something valuable. I am grateful for the support from everyone in the DFA Sonawari and Chinar FC, and I hope to carry forward this legacy with honour and integrity,” he said.
