Police arrest 2 drug peddlers in Handwara

SRINAGAR: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, police have arrested two drug peddlers in Handwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police party of Police Post Magam led by Incharge PP Magam under the supervision of SDPO Handwara and SHO PS Handwara intercepted a vehicle (Tata sumo) bearing Reg No. JK09-4301 at Khanpora Crossing with 02 persons on board. They have been identified as Irshad Ahmad lone (Driver) son of Ab Gani lone resident of Taratpura and Shabir Ahmad Marazi son of Gh Rasool Marazi resident of Summer Bug Lasjan Srinagar.
“During the search of the vehicle, about 106 grams of charas like contraband substance was recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,” police said in a statement.
Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Handwara and investigation has been initiated.
“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said.
