Global PC market shows progress in 2024, backed by AI-capable PCs

New Delhi: The worldwide PC market has shown progress in the first quarter of 2024, according to a report by Canalys. The total shipment of desktops and notebooks in Q1 of 2024 has witnessed a growth of 3.2 per cent, with companies shipping over 57.2 million units of personal computing devices.
The report highlights that the steady growth in the PC industry is due to the recovery in PC demand across sectors and is driven by new Windows 11 laptops and AI PCs.
Lenovo currently tops the chart with a 24 per cent market share, having shipped over 13,735 thousand PCs in Q1 2024. It is followed by HP with a 21 per cent market share, and Dell emerges as the third-biggest PC vendor in the first quarter of 2024 with a 16.2 per cent market share.
Compared to year-on-year performance, Dell has lost over 2.2 per cent of the market, while both Lenovo and HP have gained market share.
Apple, the only company that ships macOS devices, is currently the fourth-biggest company in the personal computing space, with a market share of 9.4 per cent and over 2.5 per cent year-on-year growth. This growth is boosted by the recently launched M3-powered 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models.
According to Canalys, the demand for PCs will continue to grow in 2024, with companies expected to ship over 50 million units of AI-enabled PCs this year. These laptops will include a dedicated AI accelerator, such as an NPU found on Intel’s “Meteor Lake” Core Ultra processors.
