KU empowering youth with skills, mindset needed for competitive entrepreneurship: VC

Srinagar: The NewGen Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDC), Kashmir University (KU), in collaboration with Kashmir Angel Network (KAN), organised a three-day ‘Spring Start-up Challenge Workshop’ here.
The event, which concluded on Wednesday, aimed to encourage innovation and entrepreneurial spirit among the youth of Kashmir, an official statement issued here read.
KU Vice Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan, highlighted the importance of such initiatives in nurturing a vibrant start-up ecosystem within the region.
“Our University is committed to empower the youth with the skills and mindset needed to thrive in the competitive world of entrepreneurship,” an official spokesperson quoted Prof Khan as saying.
KU Registrar, Prof Naseer Iqbal, emphasised the workshop’s role in inspiring students towards entrepreneurial pursuits.
He said, ‘Events like these serve as catalysts for transforming ideas into impactful ventures, ultimately contributing to the socio-economic development of our region.”
The workshop featured industry experts and seasoned entrepreneurs who shared insights into start-up ideation, validation, business model formulation and key financial and legal considerations.
“The participants engaged in interactive sessions, practical workshops, and enriching dialogues, equipping them with the necessary tools to translate their ideas into successful ventures,” the spokesperson said.
A highlight of the event was the sessions on crafting persuasive pitch decks and mastering the art of pitching, where participants received personalised mentorship and feedback from industry experts. Start-ups also had the opportunity to pitch their concepts to a panel of experts from KAN, who provided valuable insights and guidance, the statement read.
During the valedictory ceremony, Dean, Colleges Development Council, KU, Prof Khursheed Ahmad Butt, encouraged the participants to “fearlessly pursue entrepreneurial aspirations and make a positive impact on society”, read the statement.
Coordinator, NewGen IEDC, Dr Sartaj Hussain, reiterated KU’s commitment to encouraging an entrepreneurial mindset among the youth.
Nodal Officer, NewGen IEDC, Dr Parvez Ahmad Shah, conducted the proceedings of the event, the statement added.
