Traffic Police Launch Special Drive on Pampore Highway, 100 Vehicles Challaned

SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir calls for compliance with Supreme Court guidelines on documentation for school vehicles

PAMPORE, March 23: In a targeted operation against traffic violations, including overloading, overspeeding, lack of helmets, absence of seat belts, and non-possession of valid documents, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, Ravinder Pal Singh, along with DSP Traffic Pulwama Shopian, Dr. Mudasser Tramboo and DTI Pulwama, conducted a special drive along the Srinagar-Jammu national highway near the Chandhara Pampore areas of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday.
During the drive, Traffic Police officials executed 100 traffic challans against offenders driving in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act. SSP Traffic Rural appealed to the masses to adhere to traffic laws, emphasizing the importance of addressing offenses related to excess passengers, overspeeding, failure to wear helmets, and lack of proper documentation. It is noteworthy that instances of overspeeding and carrying excess passengers have recently resulted in fatal accidents.
The drivers were counseled on the spot and advised to follow proper SOPs for safe and accident-free driving. Vehicle operators were also briefed to ply their respective vehicles within the prescribed speed limit and avoid overloading, rash and negligent, stunt-driving to ensure the safety of precious human lives.
Furthermore, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir Ravinder Pal appealed to school authorities to ensure that school buses strictly adhere to the guidelines set by the Supreme Court. This appeal underscores the critical need to prioritize the safety of students during transportation.
Speaking to Kashmir Reader at NH-44 Pampore, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir Ravinder Pal Singh, said, “Today we are here at Chandhara Pampore NH 44 for a mega drive aimed at enforcing traffic rules and regulations and raising awareness among people. Our efforts are focused on ensuring compliance with traffic laws and reaching out to the public to make them aware of the various traffic regulations they need to follow.”
He further added, “All the DySPs and DTIs in Rural Kashmir areas are currently conducting drives in their respective areas. The purpose of these drives is to reach out and make people aware so that they understand and follow rules and regulations. Additionally, our aim is to address the increasing trend of traffic accidents, which primarily stem from overspeeding, reckless and negligent driving, as well as overloading. These are the main factors contributing to accidents.”
SSP Ravinder Pal emphasized, “My message should reach commuters, passengers, drivers, and vehicle owners, urging them to follow rules and regulations. We will not tolerate overspeeding, nor will we tolerate overloaded vehicles such as sumos, cabs, and buses. I want to convey to all people, including school owners, that they must ensure full documentation as per Supreme Court guidelines. Drivers should possess necessary documents, including a valid driver’s license, first aid kit, and permanent documents. Vehicle registration certificates (RC) must also be valid, and fitness checks should be up to date.”
He concluded by saying, “If the public supports us, we will be successful in our endeavors.”
