AAP leaders Atishi, Saurabh among several detained at ITO

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers and leaders, including Delhi Ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bhardwaj, were detained by police on Friday as they protested against the arrest of Delhi CM and party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, at ITO here.
AAP leaders and supporters are protesting at the ITO, near the AAP and BJP headquarters.
AAP Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj was detained. Speaking to reporters, he said ,”…We will state before the Supreme Court that Arvind Kejriwal should be allowed to meet his lawyer and family and also allowed to carry out his official work. Kejriwal’s family has been put under house arrest.”
“You can arrest Kejriwal, can’t suppress his ideology,” said Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, who is reaching Delhi to meet Kejriwal’s family.
AAP leader Gopal Rai announced nationwide protests to be held today against the Bharatiya Janata Party over the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal on allegations of corruption linked to the city’s liquor policy.
Rai said,”…The BJP sent agencies and got Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal arrested…This is the murder of democracy.”
The Supreme Court will hear today Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s writ petition challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate yesterday in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. A Special Bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna, MM Sundresh and Bela Trivedi will hear the matter. AAP workers and leaders rallied behind Kejriwal following his arrest, while leaders of the INDIA bloc also extended their support for the AAP leader. BJP leaders extended their support to the ED’s actions against the Delhi Chief Minister, emphasising that “truth had to prevail.”
Two senior AAP leaders, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, are in judicial custody in the excise policy case. Sisodia, who was the then Delhi Deputy Chief Minister, was arrested by the CBI on February 26 following several rounds of questioning. On October 5, ED arrested Sanjay Singh, a Rajya Sabha member.
