KCCI voices concern over power outages in Ramadan

SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has expressed deep concern regarding the ongoing power outages across various parts of the valley, especially during the sacred month of Ramadan. The disruptions in power supply have resulted in significant hardships for consumers in their day-to-day activities, including performing prayers and observing religious rituals.
Ramadan holds profound significance in Islamic history, with its eventful days deeply intertwined with religious observances. Historically, governments have ensured consistent and uninterrupted power supply during this auspicious month. However, since the Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (KPDCL) assumed responsibility for power distribution, there has been a noticeable disregard for Ramadan’s sanctity, the KCCI said in a statement.
The KCCI said it is dismayed by the insensitive behavior exhibited by the Department, particularly given the extensive deployment of cables and installation of smart meters across large parts of the Valley. The adverse impact of power shutdowns on trading communities has been significant, exacerbating economic losses.
In light of these challenges, the KCCI urges authorities to take immediate action to address the power crisis, prioritizing the welfare of the people and ensuring uninterrupted business operations in the Kashmir Valley.
The KCCI has also appealed to the Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, to intervene and review the situation. The organization calls for swift directives to KPDCL officials to implement immediate measures to halt power shutdowns, providing relief to affected communities during this holy month.
