Pampore residents demand end to unscheduled power cuts, seek LG’s intervention

Idara Awqaf Islamia Trust Pampore urges authorities to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply

PAMPORE: Residents of Saffron Town Pampore and other villages of Pampore Tehsil are up in arms against the Power Development Department (PDD) as these areas face massive unscheduled power cuts, making life miserable for inhabitants.
Local residents informed Kashmir Reader that they are grappling with numerous problems due to unscheduled power cuts, with no intervention from the concerned authorities. These power disruptions are causing significant distress, especially affecting children’s studies as exams approach, and impacting households with sick patients.
They appealed to the LG Administration to promptly address the issue.
Members of the Idara Awqaf Islamia Trust Pampore expressed concern over the frequent power disruptions. The Awqaf Trust Pampore voiced dissatisfaction with the electricity department’s unscheduled power cuts in Saffron Town and other villages, causing inconvenience for locals. They urge the administration to adhere to the schedule to ensure uninterrupted power supply, thereby alleviating community hardships.
Speaking to Kashmir Reader, Mohammad Maqbool Shah, President of Idara Auqaf Islamia Trust Pampore conveyed that erratic electricity supply in Pampore has caused significant distress among residents. While understanding scheduled power cuts, he opposed unscheduled outages due to the inconvenience they cause the local community.
If scheduled power supply from 2 PM to 6 PM with only 30 minutes of electricity available is causing distress among residents, it exacerbates existing difficulties. Despite sacrifices made by Pampore for the establishment of the electricity system, including grid stations and towers, no compensation was provided for affected land and residential plots.
He told Kashmir Reader that besides existing challenges, the current electricity situation adds insult to injury for the people. “Therefore, the government must ensure scheduled power cuts are implemented accordingly and minimize unscheduled ones,” he said. “It is very challenging and distressing for us. If other areas receive regular power supply with only scheduled cuts, why should Pampore face this injustice alone? We urge the administration to take notice and address our difficulties.”
Regarding electricity fees, Shah said that despite any increases, people cooperate and clear their fees monthly. “Any difficulties regarding electricity fees would be due to government departments. The general public diligently pays their fees,” he said.
“If someone’s load was increased, they did not protest, but with increased load and tariff, we expect the supply line to improve, minimizing unscheduled power cuts,” the Auqaf President said.
