DDC member advocates for road construction in Pampore’s Babseer village

Tazeema Akhter visits remote tribal village, engages with locals, addresses their issues

Pampore: Taking a proactive stance on addressing the infrastructural needs of her constituency, District Development Council (DDC) member Tazeema Akhter visited the remote Babseer Ladhoo village in the Pampore Constituency on Sunday. The visit aimed to engage with local residents and address persistent challenges related to inadequate road connectivity.
During the visit, residents of the far-flung Babseer area expressed concerns about the existing road problems, underscoring the significance of a well-constructed road for the convenience of the community. Responding to these concerns, Tazeema Akhter has fervently appealed to the administration to prioritize and undertake the construction of a road in the village.
Expressing her commitment to actively work towards resolving infrastructural issues faced by the people of Babseer tribal village, Tazeema Akhter emphasized the urgency of addressing the challenges brought to her attention during the visit.
As the plea for road construction gains momentum, the local administration is expected to assess feasibility and expedite necessary measures to fulfill this crucial requirement.
A resident of Gujjar Basti expressed gratitude to DDC Tazeema Akhtar for her visit, appreciating her effort to walk and listen to the concerns of the community. The lack of road infrastructure in the area, with no access for vehicles despite 40 to 50 households, poses significant challenges, especially during emergencies like medical situations.
Despite available funds through the DDC member, residents lamented the lack of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for road construction, contrasting it with the operation of stone quarries in the mountains without apparent hindrances. They urged the Lieutenant Governor (LG) and district administration to facilitate the construction of a 4 km road, alleviating their daily struggles in the far-flung settlement.
Another resident, Manzoor Ahmad, highlighted the longstanding need for a 5 km road from Mundakpal to Babseer, underscoring the absence of basic facilities in the area over the past 35 years. The denial of NOCs, while stone quarries operate smoothly, poses significant challenges for the community, especially in cases of illness or emergencies.
In her conversation with Kashmir Reader, Tazeema Akhtar reiterated her commitment to addressing the road infrastructure issue in Babseer Gujjar Basti. She urged the government to expedite the construction of a road, emphasizing the immediate challenges faced by residents in the absence of proper road access. Akhtar pledged to utilize funds from schemes like MGNREGA or her DDC allocation to assist in the construction if an NOC is granted.
Questioning the disparity in NOC issuance for road construction compared to stone quarries in the mountains, Tazeema Akhtar called for swift action to ensure the well-being and accessibility of the residents in Babseer Gujjar Basti.
