Hajin residents distressed as street lights remain defunct

Local urge authorities to address longstanding issue affecting public safety

Bandipora: Residents of Hajin town in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district are expressing frustration over the prolonged non-functionality of street lights at vital locations, blaming the Municipal Committee Hajin for its failure to address the issue.
The lights, situated in crucial public areas such as the main market, Community Health Centre Hajin, and the main bus stand, have reportedly been non-operational for nearly a year, causing inconvenience to residents during evening hours.
Despite reaching out to authorities, residents claim that no action has been taken to rectify the problem. Abdul Rahim, a local resident, expressed his disappointment, stating, “It’s very unfortunate that street lights in Hajin have been non-functional for over a year, causing inconvenience to residents during evening hours.”
He further questioned why authorities have not taken steps to repair these crucial lights, which are adversely affecting the public in the area. Another resident, Abid Ahmad, voiced his hope that the Municipal Committee would swiftly address the problem, ensuring residents’ safety during evening walks.
The dysfunctional street lights not only create a negative impression on visitors to Hajin but also leave local residents and traders frustrated. While some lights along the main road passing through the market are operational, other essential locations suffer from a complete outage.
Residents have appealed to the Deputy Commissioner of Bandipora to personally intervene and resolve the matter. In response, Executive Officer of the Municipal Committee Hajin, Fayaz Ahmad, assured Kashmir Reader that he would investigate the issue promptly.
