DDOs to ensure proper verification of documents before granting deduction to employees: IT Dept

Srinagar: The Income Tax Department, J&K, in collaboration with the District Administration, Anantnag, organized an outreach program and interactive session at the Dak Bungalow, Khanabal. Chaired by Rahul Padha (Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Srinagar) and attended by over 250 DDOs, Account Officers, and government employees, the session aimed to educate and engage participants on various aspects of income tax compliance.
M.L. Dogra, Income Tax Officer, Udhampur, initiated the proceedings by emphasizing the significance of filing ITRs and paying taxes honestly. He provided insights into the territorial jurisdiction of the Income Tax Department in the region. Karamvir, ITO TDS Jammu & Srinagar, focused on TDS provisions, urging timely filing of quarterly TDS returns to avoid penalties.
Ankit Dhaka, Tax Recovery Officer, Srinagar, emphasized the issuance of Form-16 to employees after due diligence and proper verification of documents supporting eligible deductions. He highlighted the department’s scrutiny of HRA claims, urging DDOs to verify rent-related documents thoroughly.
DDOs were advised to seek proper documentary evidence for various sections, such as 80C (LIC/PF/tuition fees), 80CCD, 80D (Health Insurance), 80DD (Treatment of disability), 80DDB (Medical treatment), 80E (Education loan), 80EE/80EEA (Loan for house property), 80EEB (Deduction for purchase of Electric vehicle), 80G (Donations), 80GGC (Donation to political parties), and 80U (Deduction in case of disability).
The session concluded with a Q&A segment, addressing queries and concerns of the audience related to Income Tax provisions. Rahul Padha urged participants to file ITRs correctly and timely, emphasizing the importance of honest tax payment for national progress. He assured taxpayers of the government’s commitment to addressing grievances promptly through the grievance redressal mechanism.
Rahul Padha extended gratitude to all participants for their enthusiastic response and thanked the District Administration, led by DC Mr. Sayeed Fakarudin Abid, for their support in making the event successful.
