BJP picks Mohan Yadav, Ujjain Dakshin MLA as new MP CM

NEW DELHI, DEC 11: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday dropped a big surprise as it announced Mohan Yadav, an MLA from Ujjain Dakshin, as new chief minister for Madhya Pradesh. Mr Yadav is the Higher Education Minister in the outgoing Shivraj Singh Chouhan government.
Former Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, who was fielded from Madhya Pradesh in the recently held state legislative assembly elections, will be the new Speaker.
The new Chief Minister-elect will have two deputies – Jagdish Deora and Rajesh Shukla.
Reacting to the BJP’s decision to pick him as CM, Yadav said, “I am a small worker of the party. I thank all of you, the state leadership and the central leadership. With your love and support, I will try to fulfil my responsibilities.”
The development is seen as a setback to the political aspirations of the outgoing Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
However, in a message of unity, Chouhan was there on stage with Yadav when he was announced his successor.
The BJP registered a landslide victory in Madhya Pradesh in the recently held assembly polls bagging 163 of the 230 seats. The victory was credited to PM Modi’s leadership as several leaders dismissed the effect of Chouhan’s schemes.
