Traffic Police launches special drive against overloading

Pampore: In an effort to address the issue of overloading in passenger vehicles, Traffic Police Rural, Kashmir, has initiated a special drive in various areas of the Kashmir Valley. Led by SSP Traffic Rural R.P Singh, the two-day operation resulted in the seizure of 15 vehicles, including two Road Transport Corporation (RTC) buses, found overloaded with passengers in Pampore and Tangdhar. This underscores the commitment of traffic police to ensuring public safety.
Officials informed Kashmir Reader that the drive against Motor Vehicle Act violations included the registration of FIRs for overloading and endangering human lives. During the operation, a Traffic Police team intercepted an RTC Bus on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway near Galendar area of Pampore. The vehicle was found overloaded with 30 passengers beyond its seating capacity. Subsequently, the vehicle was seized, and a case (FIR number 133/2023) was registered at Police Station Pampore. The driver, Parvaiz Ahmad Jaral, was arrested in connection with the case.
SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir, R.P Singh, emphasized the ongoing efforts to book violators and highlighted the importance of drivers prioritizing safety. He urged drivers to ensure they carry complete documents and conduct necessary mechanical checks on their vehicles. Adherence to safety measures, including proper documentation and vehicle inspections, is crucial during the initiative.
Singh advised drivers of cabs, taxis, matadors, and buses to avoid overspeeding and overloading, emphasizing that authorities are utilizing all provisions under the Motor Vehicle Act to penalize offenders. FIRs are being initiated as part of enforcement measures, with 12 to 15 vehicles seized in the last two days due to overloading in different areas. Passengers were also urged not to travel in overloaded vehicles for their safety.
