Srinagar: The outstanding achievements of water sports athletes were celebrated at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) where they were felicitated for their exceptional performance and medal-winning efforts in the national arena.
Mr. Maysir, along with Mr. Aqib, Mr. Idrees, and Mr. Showkat, distinguished players with a rich history of national participation and numerous medals, added another feather to Jammu and Kashmir’s cap by securing a Bronze medal in the recently concluded National Championship held in Uttarakhand. Their remarkable accomplishment was acknowledged during a felicitation ceremony, following which the team was spiritedly sent off to the upcoming National Games in Goa by the Water Sports Associations.
The felicitation ceremony was graced by the presence of esteemed personalities, including Mr. Shafqat Watali (President, Jammu and Kashmir Water Sports and Kayaking Association) and Dr. Burhan Bazaz (President, Jammu and Kashmir Aquatic and Rowing Society), along with various other prominent figures from the Union Territory. Their presence not only demonstrated unwavering support for the athletes but also showcased the community’s collective pride in their achievements.
Dr. Bazaz commended the dedication and effort exhibited by the young water sports athletes, highlighting the instrumental role played by Ms. Bilquis Mir (Director, Water Sports Jammu and Kashmir, and an accomplished international player) in shaping these athletes into extraordinary talents. He drew a parallel, describing Ms. Mir as a “Lapidarist” who transforms ordinary stones into rare and precious gems. Dr. Bazaz expressed his optimism about the future, stating that with the support of the Government, the LG administration, and the hard work of the athletes, Jammu and Kashmir’s talent would soon represent India at the highest competitive levels.
Mr. Shafqat Watali shared his immense satisfaction with the performance of Jammu and Kashmir’s water sports champions. He attributed their success to the dedication of the players, the commitment of the association’s office bearers, and, most significantly, the unwavering professional guidance and motivation provided by Ms. Bilquis Mir, the Director of Water Sports in Jammu and Kashmir. Mr. Watali assured the emerging water sports champions of the association’s unwavering support and extended his best wishes to the athletes for their upcoming national endeavors.
