NCCF launches mobile vans to provide lentils, dal, onions at affordable rates in Srinagar

Must read

Pampore: In a groundbreaking move, the National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India (NCCF) has rolled out a vital initiative to provide essential commodities at affordable rates in the Srinagar district. NCCF’s Srinagar branch head, Alisha Shah, flagged off 5 mobile vans from Barsoo Awantipora, marking the inauguration of a service aimed at delivering Bharat Dal, Onion, Honey, and millets directly from the farm gate.
The primary objective of this initiative is to ensure convenient access to essential goods, reflecting a significant step toward economic stability and food security. Alisha Shah, Branch head of NCCF, expressed the core motivation behind the project, stating, “Our mission is to offer essential items at rates significantly lower than the market prices. For instance, while the retail price of onions and lentils ranges from 40 to 50 rupees per kg, we are providing them at 25 rupees and 60 rupees per kg, respectively.”
The initiative is not merely about affordability; it’s a proactive effort to respond to the community’s needs. These mobile vans are stocked with Bharat Dal, Onion, Honey, and soon, flour (Atta), catering to the immediate requirements of the people. Importantly, the NCCF has also requested increased rice supply from the government to further expand their offerings.
A unique feature of this endeavor is its responsiveness to local demands. As Alisha Shah emphasized, “We are committed to fulfilling the specific needs of different areas. After this initial phase in Srinagar, our plan is to extend this service to rural areas, ensuring that the benefits reach every corner according to their specific needs.”
The initiative has already garnered immense support from the local populace. Muneer Ahmad, a resident, expressed his gratitude, highlighting the tangible impact on the community. “This initiative will greatly benefit us. If an item costs 100 rupees in the market and NCCF is providing it at a fraction of the cost, we appreciate such efforts,” he said. Muneer Ahmad also appealed to NCCF to extend this service to areas beyond Srinagar, including Pampore, Pulwama Awantipora, Tral, and others, emphasizing the wider societal significance of the initiative.
NCCF’s mobile vans are not just vehicles; they are symbols of empowerment, representing affordability, accessibility, and community well-being. As the number of mobile vans increases and commodities expand based on demand, this initiative is not just a local success story; it’s a testament to the transformative power of community-centric policies. In an era where economic stability and accessibility to essentials are paramount, NCCF’s mobile vans stand as a beacon of hope, setting an inspiring precedent for similar endeavors nationwide.
