One week training prog under DST-PURSE begins at DARS, SKUAST-K

Srinagar: A five-day training programme under DST-PURSE (Promotion of University Research for Scientific Excellence project) scheme entitled “Plant Breeding Perspectives and Modern Techniques” was kick started on Tuesday at DARS, Rangreth.
More than 30 postgraduate (MSc and PhD) students from different faculties of SKUAST-K were attending the training programme. Prof. Ajaz A. Lone (Course Director) anchored the inaugural session. Prof. O.C. Sharma, Principal Scientist – ICAR CITH, was the chief guest on the occasion accompanied by Prof. Asif. B. Shikari, Head GPB, FoA Wadura as the guest of honour.
The programme started with a welcome address by Prof. Zahoor A. Dar, Associate Director Resaerch-Rangreth in which he gave a brief importance about the training programme. Dr. Asif B. Shikari through the light on DST-PURSE Project and emphasized the students to take full benefit of this training programme.
Dr Shikari encouraged students to have good exposure on different equipment’s and machines which are nowadays used in the field of crop improvement research. The manual entitled “Plant Breeding (Perspectives & Modern Techniques)” was released for public domain by the guests.
The Chief Guest on the occasion Prof. O. C. Sharma congratulated SKUAST-K for the grant of DST-PURSE. He stressed upon participants to take full advantage of this training programme and get acclimatized with modern equipment’s. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Ajaz A. Lone.
