Srinagar: Government Degree College, Allochi Bagh Srinagar organised its maiden trekking expedition for students from Nara-nag, a tourist village, in the Ganderbal district to the foothills of Domail Marchoi which leads to famous Gangbal lake and further onwards to Gurez Sector.
A total of 28 students accompanied by faculty members/staff lead by the College principal, Prof (Dr) Mohd Amin Malik were part of this trekking-cum-subject tour. This educational adventure was a unique opportunity blending the thrill of outdoor exploration of natural beauty with academic enrichment, offering students a holistic learning experience. The trekking expedition covered a total distance of nearly 13 Kms with Principal Dr Malik leading from the front and guiding students and faculty members at every step on the scenic track along the serpentine gushing water stream.
The students were given brief perspective on Shiv Temple at Nara-Nag and trekking of historical expeditions taking place on this route. The students of Botany collected various specimens and held discussions on flora and fauna with the subject teacher during the trip. The students and the staff also interacted with the local Gujar Community and Nomads to learn about their life style and habitation.
The students expressed joy and immense gratitude towards the college administration particularly the Principal, for making this expedition possible, which gave them a refreshing and memorable break from the daily routine life. The tour was largely aimed to sensitize students about the importance of local biodiversity its conservation and nurturing a feeling of staying positive in life. More such events are on the anvil, in the days to come.
