IED Kept In Tiffin Box Found, Defused On Jammu-Poonch Highway: Army

Jammu: Army on Sunday said that its swift action in association with police foiled a “potentially catastrophic” incident along Jammu-Poonch highway.
“In a testament to the unwavering commitment of our armed forces and law enforcement agencies, a potentially catastrophic incident was averted on the Jammu -Poonch Highway in Rajouri district,” army said in a statement.
“The joint efforts of the Rashtriya Rifles of Army and Rajouri Police came to the forefront as they successfully identified, cordoned off, and neutralized an Improvised Explosive Device (IED),” the army said, adding “This not only ensured the safety of the local population but also exposed the sinister designs of (militants) aiming to disrupt the upcoming G20 meeting and spreading fear among the residents of this tranquil region.”
Based on intelligence received by the Army about a possible IED threat on the highway, it said, Joint teams of Army and Police acted swiftly to locate and neutralise the IED.
“The IED was placed in a Tiffin box, at a location which would have created multiple damages to vehicles and construction activities on the national highway,” the army said, adding, “Trained experts from the Army’s Bomb Disposal Squad disarmed the IED, rendering it safe and eliminating any potential threat it posed.”
It is evident that this act was to disrupt the Buddha Amarnath Yatra and the ongoing G20 meet, and to instil fear in the population, the army said.
“The quick and effective response by the Army and Police teams reaffirms their trust in the protectors of their peace,” they army said, adding, “The joint operation by the Indian Army and Police in Rajouri highlights the relentless commitment of our security forces to safeguard the lives and well-being of our citizens.”
