Mega event on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan held at Govt High School Konibal Pampore

Pampore: A programme on ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ was organised by Social Welfare Department Pulwama held at Government High School Konibal village of Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday.
In continuation to a series of programmes being organized to raise awareness on drug abuse under ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ in the district, an awareness programme, was organised by Department of Social Welfare Pulwama on National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction at the Government High School Panchayat Halqa Konibal Pampore.
During the programme, different activities were carried out to make people aware with regard to Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, District Social Welfare officer Pulwama Rameez Raja told Kashmir Reader.
He said that various programmes have been organized under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in various panchayat halqas of the district in which various stakeholders including youth and students of different schools have been involved to make district Pulwama drug-free.
The programme was attended by District Social Welfare officer Pulwama Rameez Raja, Tehsildar Pampore Zuber Ahmad Bhat, SHO Pampore Jazib Mohammad Bhat, ZEO Pampore Abdul Rasheed, BMO Pampore Dr Asima Nazir, Medical Officer Hilal Ahmad, Drug Inspector Shahnawaz Ahmad, Bar Association Pampore member Adv Bashir Ahmad Malik and other dignitaries.
The frontline workers from health and Mission Poshan, officials from Department of Social Welfare Pulwama, District Hub for Empowerment of Women, OSC (Mission Shakti) Pulwama, PRIs, Civil society members, a large number of students, teachers from different education institutions of Education zone Pampore were present in the event.
The participants pledged to make district Pulwama free from drugs with the active support of District Administration, Police and civil society.
A detailed introduction about this event was presented by District social welfare officer.
Resource Person from DLSA Pulwama Adv Bashir Ahmad delivered Speech on ” Legal Remedies of Drug Menace and the Role of Educational Institutions. Drug inspector Shahnawaz Ahmad Sheikh delivered a lecture on the scenario of drug addiction in Kashmir in which he made the participants aware of the alarming rise in the number of substance abusers and drug distributors across the UT. He highlighted how youth can save themselves from this evil by following religious teachings. He elaborated on the role of educational institutions in eradicating the drug menace.
Speaking on the occasion, the Tehsildar Pampore Zuber Ahmad Bhat and ZEO Pampore Abdul Rasheed addressing the students.
They said that the purpose of organizing this event was to generate awareness among the masses, especially students about the ill effects of drug abuse so that they can live drug-free lives and can become creative and important members of society. They said that such awareness programmes and seminars that highlight drug abuse are of immense importance
Addressing the students, Tehsildar Pampore said that students can play an important role in spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and its trafficking.
ZEO Pampore Abdul Rasheed said that the menace of drug addiction must be eradicated from society by holistic support of different stakeholders and everyone should come forward to curb this menace.
Caseworker Mursaleen Rasool OSC (Mission Shakti)delivered her vibrant speech on Juvenile Rights and how our youth is indulging in substance abuse. She advised the audience to aware the young wards of the menace of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. She highlighted the need for mass mobilization, and awareness and termed the role of all stakeholders pivotal in curbing the menace of substance abuse.
An oath-taking against drug addiction was conducted by Nelofer Jan (Gender Specialist) DHEW Mission Shakti Pulwama.
Amir Hussain Specialist in Financial Literacy provided valuable insights into the detrimental effects of addiction on individuals, families etc. He discussed preventive measures and Rehabilitation programmes available to assist those struggling with addiction and also he conducted proceedings of the event, District Mission Coordinator of DHEW (Mission Shakti) along with all staff members of DHEW & OSC (Mission Shakti) convened the whole programme amicably.
During the programme, various cultural activities were organized to spread the message of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
Students of the various government schools presented a cultural programme and a skit which highlighted the harmful effects of drug abuse and its trafficking.
At the end of the programme in line with the government’s commitment to a drug-free society, the awareness programme also addressed the challenges posed by substance abuse.
