Ganderbal: Under the ongoing Akhil Bharitya Shiksha Samagam Programme, several departments of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) organised panel discussions, debates, quiz programmes on Friday, highlighting the significance and importance of NEP-2020.
DSW HOLDS PANEL DISCUSSION
Department of Students Welfare (DSW), organized a panel discussion on NEP-2020 implementation and outcomes, which was chaired by Prof. Zahoor Ahmad Geelani, Dean SoE and Nodal Officer NEP implementation committee.
In his remarks, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, emphasized the role of different stakeholders in creating awareness about the policy among the masses. He said the multidisciplinary approach promotes holistic development and encourages students to explore other areas of interest.
Head, Deptt of Management Studies, Prof. Abdul Ghani, highlighted the key benefits of NEP 2020 for undergraduate and postgraduate students. He said the School of Business Studies is focused on revolutionizing the curriculum framework with current demand.
Earlier, Dean DSW, Dr Mehraj Ud Din Shah welcomed the participants by giving some insights about the NEP. During the programme, nominees from different Schools discussed their progress and highlighted the challenges they faced in designing the curriculum framework. Prof Zahoor Geelani said the new curriculum aims to prepare students for modern challenges and opportunities. Dr. Asif Khan, Dy Director DSW, conducted the event.
QUIZ CONDUCTED BY BOTANY DEPARTMENT
Department of Botany organised a quiz competition at Science campus Nuner to apprise students and faculty about various aspects of NEP-2020 and to spread awareness for its effective implementation in future. First position was bagged jointly by Zahida Hamid and Zeenat while second position went to Peerzada Aquib & Tamana Zahoor. Third position was won by Manzoor Ahmad Padroo & Aabid Ahmad Parry. Junaid ul Islam & Shakir from Chemistry department were considered for consolation prize. Deptt Nodal Person, Prof Azra N Kamili, appreciated the participation of students. Quiz was organized by Dr. Sajad Ahmad Lone & Dr. Shaiesta Shah acted as rapporteur.
DTS HOLDS SEMINAR
Department of Tourism Studies (DTS), organised a seminar on ‘Role of NEP -2020 in Sparking Growth and New Job Creation in Tourism and Hospitality’.
Dean School of Business Studies, Prof. Fayaz Ahmed Nika, emphasised the need to meet the skill gap in tourism and hospitality industry through intensive vocationalisation of the academic programs offered by the university to meet the market demand.
Dr. Sunita Badhwar, Vice President Standards, Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) highlighted the need for integration of skill components with the higher education system of India for achieving higher employability.
Dr. Ashaq Hussain Najar, Coordinator, talked about the importance of NEP in job creation for the Tourism and Hospitality sector. Dr. Ramjit, Sr. Asst Prof highlighted the role of ancient universities like Taxila, Nalanda, Valabhi, Vikramshila in the overall development of human capital in India. Dr. Abid Suhail Nika, Ass Prof moderated the session and Mr.Qazi Ruban proposed the vote of thanks.
ZOOLOGY DEPTT HOLDS POSTER COMPETITION
Department of Zoology, organised a poster competition on “Multidisciplinary approach of NEP-2020 at Undergraduate level”. During the event students highlighted the generalized structure and merits of the policy through their posters.
Faculty members coordinated and supervised various activities related to the competition. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize was bagged by Ms. Munaza Fayaz, Ms. Adeeba Irshad and Mr.Sajad Ahmad Malik respectively. Dean School of Life Science Prof. M Yousuf, congratulated the toppers. Faculty including Prof. Abid Hamid Dar, Prof. Azra Nahid Kamili and Dr. Mohammad Lateef were present.
COMMERCE DEPTT HOLDS LECTURE
Department of Commerce, organized a lecture on “Implementation and outcomes of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020” which was delivered by Asst Prof. Dr Rizwana Rafiq.
Dr Rizwana, said the policy focuses on several key areas, including restructuring the curriculum, promoting interdisciplinary learning, encouraging skill development and increasing the use of technology in education. Dr Mubashir Hassan, Asst Prof. said that these lectures would be beneficial for students, educators, policymakers, and other stakeholders making them understand the changes brought about by the new policy.
POLITICS DEPTT HOLDS DEBATE COMPETITION
The Department of Politics and Governance organised a debate and essay competition. In the debate competition titled “What Is Ideal Education?” The participants debated about the ideal education from the concepts of Plato, Aristotle to the contemporary understanding of education at all levels from primary to higher learning. In the essay competition “NEP 2020 as a Model of Ideal Education” students analyzed their take on the NEP 2020. The 4th-semester students won the debate competition. In the essay competition, first position was shared by Ms Farhana and Mr Muhammad Aqib while Mr Mohsin and Mr Jameel bagged the second and third slot respectively.
DRS HOLDS LECTURE
Department of Religious Studies (DRS) organized a lecture on “National Education Policy 2020: Progress and Prospects” by Dr. Muhammad Yaseen Gada, Assistant Professor, DRS.
The lecture focused on providing insights into NEP 2020, offering an overview of the policy’s fundamental principles and goals. The key points covered during the lecture included the emphasis on holistic education, flexible subject choices, skill development, inclusivity, technology integration, and teacher empowerment.
Asst Profs Dr. Nazir Ahmad Zargar presided over the event, Dr. Showkat Shah moderated it and Dr. Harpal Singh proposed the vote of thanks.
BIOTECH DEPTT CONDUCTS PROG ON ‘BACKWARD LINKAGE’
Department of Biotechnology, conducted a programme on “Backward Linkage” with Jawahar Navodya Vidyalaya, Hatbora.
HoD, Dr. Abid Hamid apprised the participants about the significance of cultivating a scientific temperament among budding minds and highlighted the contributions of various Indian scientists like C.V Raman in promoting a scientific culture among the young minds of the nation. Asst Prof. Dr. Shabir H Qureshi, interacted with the students and highlighted various aspects of pursuing a career in science in order to broaden the intellectual horizon.
