SKUAST initiates capacity building prog on organic farming under HADP

SRINAGAR: Division of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, SKUAST-K, Wadura, has initiated one-week capacity building training programme under Holistic Agriculture Development Programme Project No 16: ‘Alternate System of Agriculture for Sustainability’.
The inaugural session of the training programme was graced by Prof. A.H. Mughal, Director Research, SKUAST-K who in his inaugural address informed the house about the HADP Projects their importance, implementation strategies and planning for future development especially organic agriculture in the Kashmir valley.
He emphasised on the ways Kashmir can meet the growing demand for organic produce in a health-conscious society its scope especially in remote pockets using traditional cultivation methods which can easily be converted as organic hubs. Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth enlightened the house about the pillars of organic farming and activities associated to fulfil its principles.
Dr. Lal Singh, Course Director extended a warm welcome to the esteemed guests. Dr. Parmeet Singh, Principal Investigator, HADP-16 emphasized the need for the capacity building of extension functionaries on the organic crop production system in the current scenario. A total of 25 participants from various development departments, KVKs and Faculty of Agriculture have registered for the said training programme.
The programme was attended by Mr. Yaduvinder Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, Baramulla, Heads of various Division, Head KVK Bandipora, Head KVK Kupwara, Faculty Members, Participants/Students, supporting Staff and media persons. Dr. Lal Singh, Course Director extended a warm welcome to the guests and a vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Amal Saxena, Professor and Head Division of Agronomy.
