New Delhi: The Madhya Pradesh government Friday announced relief and financial assistance of Rs 6.5 lakh for Dashmat Rawat, a labourer from a tribal community who was seen being urinated on in a video.
“As per the directions of CM, Dashmat Rawat has been provided with a relief amount of Rs 5 lakh. A financial help of Rs 1.50 lakh has also been sanctioned for the construction of his house,” Saket Malviya, Collector of MP’s Sidhi district, said on Twitter.
Rawat was urinated on, allegedly by Pravesh Shukla (30), in Siddhi district around three months ago. The video of the incident recently went viral, stirring up a political storm and prompting MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan to meet with Rawat and wash his feet as a mark of apology.
During the meeting, the CM had reportedly spoken to Rawat’s family and enquired about his job and whether he was benefitting from the state welfare schemes.
“I met the minister, it felt good. He [CM Chouhan] called up my family and spoke to my family. I felt good. Now, I am going back after meeting him,” Rawat told the news agency ANI. When asked about the urinating incident, Rawat said: “What to say, nothing now. Whatever happened, had happened.”
Shukla, who is the main accused, was arrested on Wednesday (July 5) and booked under the stringent National Security Act (NSA). He has been sent to Central Jail Rewa. An alleged illegally constructed portion of his residence was demolished by the local administration.
