Pampore sportspersons demand dewatering, levelling of Iqbal Stadium

PAMPORE: The sports fraternity of Saffron Town Pampore has appealed to authorities for dewatering and maintaining the Iqbal Stadium in the Tanchibagh area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The sports persons told Kashmir Reader that Iqbal Stadium Tanchibagh is the main playground in Pampore town which remains engaged from morning till evening. It becomes stagnated with rain water after every drizzle, they said.
The local youth appealed to the Tehsildar Pampore Zuber Ahmad Bhat and other authorities for dewatering the ground so that they can resume the games.
Aadil Ahmad Bhat, a cricketer, said the ground becomes stagnated with rainwater very often and the players have to struggle to maintain it on their own.
“This playground is used for playing cricket, volleyball and martial arts in the morning, and cricket during daytime while football is played in the evening,” he said, adding that after rain it becomes stagnated interrupting the play schedule for many days.
He appealed to concerned authorities for paying attention to the playground. “It needs dewatering and subsequent maintenance,” he said, adding that other playgrounds in Pampore are severely affected by rain.
The sportspersons have urged the authorities for dewatering the playground and subsequent levelling so that sports activities resumed there.
