Illicit timber, two horses seized: Officials
Pulwama: The forest department officials on Saturday said they arrested a timber smuggler and seized illicit timber being carried on two horses at the Romshi Forest Range Pulwama area of the forest division Shopian.
An official told Kashmir Reader that acting on specific information about timber smugglers in the outskirts of district Pulwama, a joint party of Sangewani, Namblan, Keller and Zampathri blocks led by Block Forest Officer Sangerwani Iliyas Ul Rasool Lone under the supervision of Range Officer, Ghulam Nabi Chowhan, laid a naka at a particular spot and the party succeeded in seizing two horses loaded with 15.90 Cft illicit timber. One person was apprehended on the spot, he said.
The arrested person was handed over to Police Station Keller where he remains in custody, the official said, adding that the seized timber has been shifted to CRD Pulwama.
In this connection, a case has been registered in Police Station Keller under relevant sections of IPC & IFA. Further investigation is going on, he said.
