MoE-sponsored workshop on ‘Glossary of Electronics Engineering’ concludes at KU

Srinagar: A five-day workshop on ‘Fundamental Glossary of Electronics Engineering (English-Hindi-Kashmiri)’ was organised by the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT), Ministry of Education (Department of Higher Education), New Delhi, in association with the University of Kashmir. The workshop was held at the Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Technology, KU.
Earlier, Registrar of the University Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir inaugurated the workshop and highlighted its importance in the context of New Education Policy and emphasised that such workshops are also needed in other Science and Social Science subjects.
In the workshop, approximately 2900 electronics terms are to be translated into the Kashmiri language. In the first meeting held between 15-19 May, 2023, approximately 60 percent translation has been completed after having threadbare discussion between the subject and the language experts. The workshop was first of its kind in the discipline of Engineering organised by the University of Kashmir.
In the backdrop of the workshop, the officer in-charge of the workshop, Er. J.S. Rawat of the Ministry of Education, Government of India and Coordinator of the Workshop, Dr Javaid Ahmad Sheikh, Sr. Assistant Professor of Department of Electronics, KU met Vice-Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan, and briefed her about the workshop and the work carried so far. The Vice-Chancellor thanked the Ministry of Education, Government of India, for choosing University of Kashmir for such a task of national importance. Prof Nilofer Khan assured full support for completion of the prestigious project.
In the valedictory function, Controller Examination, KU, Dr. Majid Zaman Baba was the Chief Guest. Dr. Majid highlighted the importance of the workshop in the context of NEP 2020. Prof Aejaz Mohammaed Sheikh, Head, Departments of Urdu and Linguistics and Prof. M. Tariq Banday, Head Department of Electronics, also spoke on the occasion. Er. J.S. Rawat thanked the University of Kashmir and experts for their support. The valedictory function was moderated by Dr. Javaid Ahmad Sheikh, who thanked all the stakeholders of the workshop.
