2 labourers die, 9 injured in road accident at Awantipora

ADC Awantipora visits SMHS hospital to enquire about condition of the injured

PAMPORE, May 18: Two labourers including a woman were killed and nine others were injured when the vehicle they were travelling met with an accident on Srinagar Jammu National Highway near Awantipora on Thursday morning.
Soon after the incident, police and administration officials rushed to the spot and shifted injured persons to a nearby hospital.
A police official told Kashmir Reader that the accident took place near Gujjar and Bakerwal hostel Awantipora on Thursday morning at 7.30 am when a tempo traveller vehicle bearing registration number JK06-3355 carrying 22 passengers coming from Jammu to Srinagar turned turtle.
He said that two labourers including a woman, one from Jharkhand and the other from Madhya Pradesh died on the spot.
The deceased was identified as Laksham Dumka son of Jetoo Dehari, resident of Jharkhand and Suman Devi wife of Rajesh Rajpoot, resident of Chattarpure Madhya Pradesh.
“Nine others who were injured were shifted to a nearby hospital where 6 of them were referred to different hospitals in Srinagar,” police officials said.
Talking to Kashmir Reader, RMO of SDH Pampore, Dr Bilal Ahmad, said that out of 7 injured 4 injured persons identified as Aakash, Shanti Pal, Hashim, Kalkoop, and Ajay Dew Rajpoot residents from Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand were referred to SMHS and 2 injured people identified as Gajendar Rajpoot of Madhya Pradesh and Deleep Kumar of Jharkhand referred to Bone and Joint hospital Srinagar.
He said that one injured identified as Rakesh Rajpoot was under treatment at SDH Pampore.
Deputy Administration Pulwama announced the ex-gratia for injured persons.
Tehsildar Awantipora Shakeel Ahmad told Kashmir Reader that the bodies have been dispatched to PCR Srinagar where from they will be sent to their respective places by the district administration.
“Ex-gratia of ten thousand rupees each has been sanctioned for the injured out of Red Cross,” he said.
On the directions of Deputy Commissioner, Pulwama Basharat Qayoom, Additional Deputy Commissioner Awantipora Zaffar Husson Shawl along with his team visited SMHS Hospital Srinagar and enquired about the health condition of the injured.
The additional Deputy Commissioner was briefed by the doctors about the health condition of the injured labourers and the treatment being provided to them. He directed the doctors to extend the best possible treatment to the injured for early recovery.
Meanwhile, Police Awantipora have taken cognizance of the accident.
