‘Hafta-e-Shahadat events unlikely due to restrictions on Mirwaiz’

Srinagar: A meeting of executive and general council members of Jammu and Kashmir Awami Action Committee (AAC) and Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar was held in connection with Hafta-e-Shahadat (Martyrdom Week) to commemorate the 33rd martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed-e-Millat Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq (RA) and the Hawal martyrs.
Members of the meeting expressed great dismay and anguish at the continued extra legal and arbitrary detention of the head of both the organisations and the Mirwaiz of Kashmir Molvi Umar Farooq, who continues to be under house detention for last nearly four years, since August 2019. They commended the exemplary steadfastness, courage and patience of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir in the face of such trying circumstances, which they said had deepened their respect and regard for him.
Rich tributes were paid to the founder of both organisations, Shaheed-e-Millat Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq (RA), and the martyrs of Hawal 21st May 1990 for their extraordinary and unforgettable sacrifices
Reviewing matters regarding commemoration of Hafta-e-Shahadat as was the practice till 2019 , members said that due to the continuous detention of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Sahib, and severe restrictions put in place by authorities on all kinds of political , socio political or even socio religious initiatives , it is unlikely that commemorative functions will be allowed like before.
As such to remember and pay tributes to Shaheed-e-Milalt recitation of the Qur’an and Muqabla Husni Qir’aat will be organised on Friday, May 19, at the historic Central Jama Masjid Srinagar,by Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid and on Saturday May 20, a special prayer meeting will be held by Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam at Islamia Higher Secondary School after Zuhr prayers on the same day Duaeya Majlis(commemorative prayer meeting ) of AAC party workers will be held at head office Mirwaiz Manzil, Rajouri Kadal, to pay tributes to Shaheed-e-Millat, Shaheed-e-Hurriyat Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone Sahib, Hawal martyrs and all other martyrs.
On Sunday May 21 as per past practice people are requested to observe a shut down in memory of Shaheed-e-Millat and all the martyrs. Due to restrictions on all kinds of public gatherings, public rally and collective Fatheha Khawani at Mazar e Shuhada Eidgah for the beloved leader and the martyrs cannot be organised, and people are requested to instead offer Fateha at the Mazar-e-Shuhadaa at individual level.
