People demand end to Mirwaiz’s detention: Anjuman

Srinagar: Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar on Friday once again expressed deep concern over the fact that its head Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq continues to be under “illegal and arbitrary detention” for nearly four years.
In a statement, the Auqaf said that today is the 194th consecutive Friday when Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir was neither allowed to perform the important duty of Friday prayer nor carry out his religious duties, which is extremely sad and condemnable.
The Anjuman said that people from all walks of life are unable to understand why the top religious and public leader of Kashmir has been kept under continuous detention. They question why Mirwaiz is not allowed to carry out his peaceful activities and other responsibilities.
“With each passing day, people are expressing their concern over the prolonged detention of Mirwaiz and due to his absence in the historic Central Jama Masjid Srinagar, the minbar and mihrab of the grand mosque, which used to reverberate with the teachings of Qaal Allah Wa Qaala Rasool (SAW), continues to remain silent, which hurts the religious sentiments of the people here. The all-round efforts of social reform activities are also severely affected due to the detention of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir,” the Auqaf said.
