‘Sports has got everything our youth need for mental and physical growth’

Pulwama: Joint Director Kashmir Department of Youth Services and Sports Waseem Raja after releasing the balloons in air and declaring the Inter-Zonal District Level Carrom competitions open has said that Sports has got everything to make our youth mentally and physically fit.
“Within schools, physical education is an essential component of quality education. Not only do physical education programmes promote physical activity, such programmes also correlate to improved academic performance under certain conditions. Sports can also, under the right conditions, provide healthy alternatives to deviant behaviour such as drug abuse, violence and crime,” he stated.
The tournament is being organised at synthetic Hockey turf Pulwama for both boys and girls of all the age groups.
Principal BHSS Pulwama S M Iqbal, Incharge Media and Publicity Wing of YSS Azhar Hajini, ZPEO Tahab, ZPEO Shadimarg and other senior officers and officials of the Department were also present on the glittering opening ceremony of the sports event.
The event is being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports in coordination with the District Administration Pulwama.
The student players from sports zones of Tral, Pulwama, Kakapora, Tahab, Shadimarg, Lurgam, Pampore and Awantipora are participating in the ongoing events.
Earlier I/C Media and Publicity Wing of the Department expressed happiness over the dedicated and very professional approach of recently nominated District Publicity Coordinators (DPC) in managing things related to publicity of the Developmental activities very impressively.
JD sports stressed upon the officials of the Department to promote sports culture in their respective Districts and assured of every help in taking their genuine demands to the higher-ups. He in his detailed speech appreciated the efforts of the Kashmir based District Youth Services and Sports Officers (DYSSOs) for organising activities pertaining to the scheduled activities for youth with special needs. He applauded the efforts of DYSSO Pulwama and his team for organising G20 Walkathon in an innovative manner and expected that such initiatives would be carried out in future as well with the same dedication and commitment.
Syed Javaid Andrabi PEL conducted proceedings of the event. Later on JD YSS and other senior officers and officials visited a large group of young boys who were getting training of the Yoga in the one day Programme organised under the banner of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
