SKUAST-K distributes SR4 variety of paddy seed among Shopian farmers

SRINAGAR: SKUAST-K distributed high yielding paddy seed (SR4) among the farmers of the Heff Shirmaal area of Shopia under the participatory seed village programme of NSP.
The programme was jointly organised by AICRP on seed crops, National Seed Project (NSP) SKUAST-K in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra Shopian. Prof Javid Ahmad Mughal Head ETC/KVK Malangpora Pulwama was chief guest of the occasion, who stressed upon adoption and dissemination of the high yielding university released variety of paddy.
Senior scientist and head KVK Shopian, Dr Zaffar Afroz Badri explained the benefits of the SR4 paddy variety and said that the variety is climate resilient, less susceptible to diseases and has potential to tolerate adverse weather conditions. The programme was attended by Dr Gowhar (Asstt. Prof NSP); Dr Aflaq ( Asstt. Prof NSP); Dr Shabeer Ahmad Ganie (Scientist Plant Protection, KVK Shopian); Dr Towseef (Scientist FST, KVK Pulwama) and other scientists of the Kendra.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Gowhar deliberated upon the package of practices to be adopted for the SR4 variety and thanked KVK Shopian for their support. 10 Qtls of paddy seed SR4 variety was distributed among the farmers free of cost.
