7 arrested for attacking construction company workers in Pampore: Police

PAMPORE: The residents of Bujibagh village in the Pampore Tehsil of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district allegedly attacked the workers of Hassan Road Construction Company causing damage to a sand excavator.
The HRCC says it has a disposal permit from the District Mineral Officer, Geology and Mining Department Pulwama for extraction of 5000 mts of sand from river Jhelum at Bujibagh. The sand is supplied for Executive Engineer Srinagar Smart City Project.
Police officials told Kashmir Reader that they have arrested seven persons from Bujibagh village of Pampore Tehsil for attacking the workers of the company who were mining sand from Jhelum for the Srinagar Smart City Project. They have also lodged an FIR in the incident.
Talking to Kashmir Reader, BJP district president Pulwama, Mohammad Latif Bhat, who hails from the same locality, said the contractor has proper permission from Deputy Commissioner Pulwama and District Mineral Officer Pulwama. “I want to convey it to the people that the sand is extracted for the Srinagar Smart City Project and they should not interfere in the government work,” he said.
He said that on Thursday, some people attacked the workers and caused damage to the sand excavator. “These goons must be given strict punishment for causing law and order issues,” he said.
Mudasir Hussain, the driver of the LNT Machine, said, “We were working in Bujibagh when some people started attacking us. They pelted stones on the machine causing damage to it,” he said, adding, “We had to run away from the place to save ourselves.”
He said they informed the police who visited the spot and demanded culprits be punished and compensation for damages be recovered from them.
The driver also showed documents of permission in favour of Executive Engineer Srinagar Smart City Project through Hassan Road Construction Company Pvt Ltd.
Sub Division Police Officer (SDPO) Pampore Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad told Kashmir Reader that an FIR under number 47/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at police station Pampore in this incident. “Seven persons involved in the attack on workers have been arrested,” he said.
As per the documents accessed by Kashmir Reader, the office of District Mineral Officer, Geology and Mining Pulwama has granted the disposal permit for extraction of 5000 mts sand to Executive Engineer Srinagar Smart City Limited through HRCC vide order number DMO/Pul/DGM/HRCC 95-105 dated 10 -04-2023.
