PAMPORE: Revenue authorities sealed a meat shop for allegedly selling mutton at exorbitant rates in the Drangbal area of Saffron town Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday.
On the directions of Tehsildar Pampore Zuber Ahmad Bhat, the Naib Tehsildar Pampore Javaid Ahmad sealed the Zahid meat shop for violating norms, officials told Kashmir Reader.
Naib Tehsildar Pampore Javaid Ahmad said that they received a complaint from a resident that he was overcharged by a mutton shop owner who sold him one kg of mutton for rupees 650 at Drangbal Pampore.
“On inspection, it was found that not only the customer was overcharged but also the weight of the mutton was less than one kilogram,” he said, adding that they sealed the mutton shop for violating norms.
Tehsildar Pampore Zuber Ahmad Bhat last month held a meeting with butchers of the Saffron Town Pampore at his office. The meeting was held after Tehsildar Pampore received complaints from people that mutton was sold at 650 rupees per kilogram in Pampore in the holy month of Ramadhan.
He asked mutton shop dealers to sell mutton at rupees 535 per kg and had warned of strict action against defaulters.
Tehsildar Pampore already asked the general public for contacting them if they found any meat seller selling meat at prices higher than those fixed by the government.
