GDC Sogam Organizes Husn-e-Qiraat and Husn-e-Naat competition

Srinagar: A one-day Husn-e-Qiraat and Husn-e-Naat Competition was held at GDC Sogam on 13th April 2023. The event was (jointly) organized by the Department of Islamic Studies and Faculty of Languages (Arabic, Kashmiri, Urdu and English) in collaboration with the Debates & Seminar Committee (D&SC) of the college.
On the occasion, Dr Shamim Ahmad Dar (worthy Principal, GDC Sogam), the patron of the event, delivered the Welcome Address. Prof. Ishfaq Hussain Bhat (Asst. Prof., English; Staff Secretary) was the Convener, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad (Asstt. Prof., Kashmiri; Convener, Cultural Committee) acted as the Coordinator of the event, while as Dr Tauseef Ahmad Parray (Asstt. Prof., Islamic Studies; Convener, Media Cell), who also acted as the Rapporteur, Prof. Sajad Ahmad (Asstt. Prof./ HoD, English), Prof. Javaid Hassain (Asstt. Prof., Urdu) and Dr. Syed Mohammad Amin (Lecturer, Arabic) were the organizing secretaries. Media coverage was done was Mr Amir Sohail Teli (MTS).
The Husn-e-Qiraat was moderated by Dr. Syed Mohammad Amin (Lecturer, Arabic, GDC Sogam). In the Husn-e-Qiraat Competition, six (06) students of 2nd , 4th and 5th semesters recited the verses of the noble Quran who were judged by a three-member jury, namely Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah (Sr AP, Education), Dr. M. Imran Malik (Asstt. Prof., Geography) and Dr. Mudasir Ahmad (Lecturer, Botany). In this competition, Ms Kahlida Majeed (2nd sem) bagged the first position, Ms Iqra Mushtaq (5th sem) got 2nd position and 3rd position was (collectively) bagged by Ms Aafreena Jan (4th sem) and Ms Bisma Jan (2nd sem).
The Husn-e-Naat Competition was moderated by Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad (Asstt. Prof., Kashmiri) in which seven (07) students of 2nd, 4th and 5th semesters recited their Naat who were judged by a three-member jury, namely Prof. Mehbooba Bano (Asso. Prof., Political Science), Dr. Ayaz Mahmood (Asstt. Prof., Chemistry) and Prof. Mohd. Rafi (Asstt. Prof., Economics). In this competition, Mr Ishfaq Ahmad Mir (5th sem), Ms Seerat Mushtaq (4th sem) and Mr Majidul Islam (2nd sem) bagged the first three positions, respectively.
The results were announced by Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah (Faizaan). The toppers were given a cash prize of Rs. 2000, 1500 and 1000 as well as Mementos and Certificates of Appreciation in both categories and Rs. 500 per participant and certificates of participation were distributed among all the participants and organizers.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, proposed by Prof. Ishfaq Hussain. Besides the participants, the event was attended by over two hundred (200) students and all the staff members.
