Fasting helps in preventing heart attacks: Dr Nisar Trali

PAMPORE: The Department of Islamic Studies in collaboration with the Debates and Seminars Committee organized a guest lecture on ‘Ramadan The Month of Self Appraisal’ at Government Degree College Pampore on Monday.
The purpose of the programme was to highlight the importance of Ramadan. The guest speaker on the occasion was Dr Nisar Ahmad Trali, senior physician and Ex BMO who has Authored a number of books.
During the speech, he highlighted many benefits of fasting during the holy month of Ramadhan. The faculty members and a number of students were present on the occasion.
The event was moderated by Dr Iqbal Malik Head, Department of Islamic Studies, Prof Shah Lateef and reported by Dr Huzaifa Pandit, Assistant Professor English.
The event commenced with a mellifluous recitation of the holy verses of the Quran by Professor Aijaz Manzoor Head Department of Political Science. The recitation created an aura of great serenity in the audience. Next, Asif Ahmad Dar of BA Sem 4th rendered a melodious Na’at brimming with devotion and liege to the Prophet (PBUH). The rendition was followed by a brief felicitation ceremony where the Principal GDC Pampore Dr Huda Galzai felicitated the special guest Dr Nisar Trali with a Wild Tulip and a memento. The ceremony was followed by a formal welcome address by the Principal Prof Huda Galzai.
In her address, she highlighted the rationale for organizing the lecture. “In the contemporary era, when moral decay and ethical corruption have become the order of the day, it is imperative that the youth reconnect with spirituality and reorient themselves towards the path of salvation and growth,” she said.
The address was followed by the technical session in which the guest speaker Dr Nisar Trali dwelled in great length on the rationale and spirit of Ramadan as an instrument of austerity and abstinence across all senses and dimensions, and not just starvation. The lecture also focused on the medical benefits of fasting as reducing the occurrence of serious ailments such as cardiac arrests, stroke, epilepsy and depression among others.
Talking to Kashmir Reader Dr Nisar Trali said that fasting has many beneficial health effects. He said fasting prevents heart attacks which are on increasing in Kashmir with each passing day. “Fasting increases magnesium levels in the body which lowers the chances of a heart attack. It also prevents brain stroke by the antiplatelet effect,” he said.
“It relieves muscle cramps in legs, improves asthma, neuropathy, uterine hemorrhage in women,” he said, adding that it is also beneficial for diabetic patients and patients with high cholesterol levels,” he said, adding, “Taraweeh and Tilawat have a spiritual impact on the whole being of a person who feels happiness in his heart.”
