Awantipora bus accident: Another labourer dies, toll 5

PAMPORE: Another accident victim from Bihar succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, taking the death toll in Saturday’s tragic incident at Awantipora to five.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Gulzar son of Mohammad Muneef. He breathed his last at SMHS Hospital Srinagar.
Four labourers from Bihar were killed and 32 others injured, some of them seriously, when a bus they were traveling met with an accident in Awantipora area on Saturday morning. The bus, which was carrying passengers the majority of labourers from Bihar and was heading to Srinagar from Jammu.
According to officials, 10 injured are under treatment at Bone and Joint hospital, 11 at SMHS and 2 at SKIMS Soura Srinagar.
A case FIR bearing registration number 38/2023 under relevant sections of law stands registered in police station Awantipora, SHO Mohammad Younis Khan told Kashmir Reader.
Following the directions of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs one lakh each for the next of kin (NOK) of deceased. He also announced a relief of Rs 25,000 for critically injured persons and 10,000 for minor injuries.
The DC also visited SMHS and Bone and Joint Hospital Srinagar on Saturday to inquire about the health of the injured persons. He ensured that the best possible health care is being extended to the injured by the doctors and paramedical staff of different hospitals in Pulwama and Srinagar.
