Ajas: The farmers of Ajas on Saturday expressed their gratitude to Tehsildar Ajas for fulfilling their long pending demand of removing illegal encroachment on Zajiyari Nallah in Sadunara.

A group of farmers while talking to the media said that they have been waiting for the removal of encroachment for the last 25 years so that their paddy fields get irrigation water.

They said they are extremely thankful to the district administration Bandipora in general and Tehsildar Ajas in particular for taking such a bold step by removing encroachment from Zajiyari Nallah which stops the smooth flow of water from this irrigation channel.

After removing encroachment from Zajiyari Nallah, the farmers also urged authorities for early desilting of irrigation canals. They said after desilting they will not face any difficulty in irrigating their farms in the coming months.

It is pertinent to mention that a team of the district administration led by Tehsildar Ajas Safiya Abdullah and the Irrigation Department and police team removed the encroachment made by local people on Zajiyari nullah on Thursday.

The administration has taken strict action and two JCB machines were put on the job. They removed the illegal structure and footbridges made on the land by people living around.
