Srinagar: While congratulating all the Kashmiri-speaking people on International Mother Language Day, the Adbee Markaz Kamraz has reiterated its decades-long demand for classical language status to Kashmiri language pending disposal in the Department of Culture.

Markaz in a statement has extended a warm welcome to the recently appointed Secretary Department of Culture, Dr Abid Rasheed, IAS, a man of vision and cultural consciousness, and hoped that high hopes are expected in this regard with him.

Markaz feels that the time has come for all stakeholders of society to work for the preservation of this important symbol of cultural identity. It also strongly demanded the revitalization of the Kashmiri section in the Cultural Academy, the revival of financial assistance to cultural organisations and book subsidies for local writers without any further delay.

Similarly, the revival of the scheme of purchase of books from local writers by the School Education Department and other concerned institutions is the need of the hour, Markaz said in a statement.

The Markaz has dedicated International Mother Language Day 2023 to the legendary poet and towering personality of Kashmiri Literature Late Prof Remman Rahi who passed away in January 2023.

To remember him and as a tribute to his memory a Tarhi Mushaira is being organised by Markaz on February 21 in which prominent poets of the Kashmiri language shall recite their poems on the verses of Rahi sahib, the statement said.
