2 drug peddlers arrested, contraband substances recovered: Police

Srinagar: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, police have arrested two drug peddlers in Baramulla and Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
“A police party under the supervision of SHO PS Sheeri Insp. Waseem Jahangir at a checkpoint established at STC Sheeri Crossing intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. During search, 110grams of Charas and 1.2kgs of Cannabis Hemp was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Basharat Rajab Dar son of Mohd Rajab Dar resident of Sheeri, Baramulla. He has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody,” police said in a statement.
“Similarly, a Police party of PP Frisal led by I/C PP Frisal SI Imtiyaz Malik at a checkpoint established at Peerbal Frisal, intercepted a suspicious person carrying a nylon bag who on seeing police party tried to flee from the spot but alert team apprehended him tactfully. He has been identified as Sameer Ahmad Reshi son of Mohd Ramzan Reshi resident of Peerbal Frisal. During search, 5.4kgs of grinded Cannabis (Bhang) was recovered from his possession. He has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody,” the statement said.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective Police Stations and further investigation has been initiated.
Police have requested the community members to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood, saying that persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. “Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said.
