Hajin residents aghast at dilapidated roads

Hajin: Inhabitants of Hajin town in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district have expressed strong resentment against the authorities over dilapidated road conditions in their locality.
The residents said all inner links roads connecting the locality with the main road are dotted with potholes, giving a tough time for commuters.
Aadil Ahmad of Wahab Parray Mohallah Hajin said that drainage was completed in July last year and since then it has never been maintained. “Mud makes it difficult for pedestrians to walk on these roads, especially whenever it rains,” he told Kashmir Reader, adding, “Our roads have turned muddy. We are confined to our homes during bad weather as all roads are getting waterlogged.”
Another local alleged that the contractor had not filled the road with GSB (Granular Sub Base) on the top after completing the drainage. “No work has been done after completing the drainage as this road has been left unattended since then and has not been maintained,” he alleged.
The locals rued the “step-motherly” approach by authorities and said the dilapidated condition of the roads through which the drainage has been dug causes inconvenience to people.
“We do not demand authorities to macadamize the roads but at least they can patch the potholes which they have failed to do despite repeated requests,” they said.
All the inner link roads connecting the main road in Hajin are in shambles as the R&B department has failed to maintain them after completing the drainage system, they said.
Executive Engineer R&B told Kashmir Reader that he will personally look into the matter.
