Review ration, rice, atta quota for Sgr city: ANC urged LG admin

Srinagar: The J&K Awami National Conference has appealed to the LG administration to immediately review their decision of providing ration of 4 ½ kg rice & 1/2kg atta per person to people of Srinagar city from their ration ghats.
“This quantity reduced from the earlier 11k rice & 1kg atta for the poorer category of the Srinagar city fixed by the earlier state governments had logic and a compulsion behind it as the majority of the population residing in and around Srinagar city have very meagre avenues of livelihood at their disposal,” said ANC senior Vice President Muzzafar Shah “after a number of residents from Srinagar city came in deputations to meet with him and apprise him of the anti-poor people’s decision of the LG administration to curtail the quota of rice & atta fixed per person per month which would not last even for one week”, the statement said.
“Where from will the common citizen make his ends meet when the means of his livelihood are shrinking and the unemployment numbers in J&K are the highest in the country with the numbers in J& K exceeding an alarming 35 lakh,” Shah asked.
The ANC senior VP further stated that the new electricity tariff averaging around 4000/6000 per household per month also needs an immediate review.
“The people are generally fed up with such anti poor decisions of the government that it is felt that time has come to voice the people’s concerns by way of mass protests if such decisions are not immediately reversed. I expect the LG administration to wake up to this public demand & set the things right,” Shah said.
